Scared, Alone, Traumatized. These are the three traits Maddie feels throughout the book of Alone by Megan E. Freeman. These traits represent the trauma Maddie went through when she was the only one left in the country. In the book, Alone Maddie’s parents are divorced and she goes to a secret sleepover that both of her parents do not know about. When she got to the house her friend said she could not come so she was left in the house alone. When she woke up the next day she found out she was the only one left in the country and there was a threat that she did not know about. Even though she was the only human left she found a dog which was her neighbors that’s alive and she took the dog as her best friend and the only one that can get her through this mess. Maddie went through a ton of unfortunate events throughout this story. Will she ever find someone else who has her problem? Will anyone come back and be saved or will she just die alone? It follows the story of a girl who’s named Jolene and she watches a show named The Desert Aviator. The person named Addie in the show gets trapped in a desert because her plane crashed in the middle of it. The goal she has is to save Addie who is stranded alone. This connects to the book Alone because in alone Maddie is the only one left and is struggling to survive, and Addie is stranded in the desert alone also struggling to survive. Another connection between these two books is in Alone she has problems with her parents being divorced and in Across The Desert Addies dad is dead and her mom has narcotic addiction.
